Mechanicsville Baptist Church is involved in many ministries.  These ministries are varied and numerous in order to reflect the diversity of gifts given to individual members.  We are constantly praying and seeking for new ways to serve God in our community and even to the ends of the world.  The following is a list of just some of the ministry opportunities each member can be involved in.

  • Music

We enjoy and encourage diversity in our worship music. Our Choirs and ensembles lead the congregation using music that reaches across generations, cultures, and genres. For more information about our Music Ministry, click here.

  • Vacation  Bible  School

Annually in the summer, the church ministers through Vacation Bible School.  Themes change from year to year but the message remains the same.  Teaching children the Bible stories is an integral part of developing each child spiritually. Volunteers provide a safe learning environment for every age.  This is an inter-generational event, however, adults also have the option to attend an adult bible study class during the week of Bible School.

  • Men  In  Ministry

In cooperation with the Dover Baptist Association, our men minister to meet the needs of people needing wheelchair ramps built on to their homes. This ministry provides an opportunity to meet a growing need in our community. Each week on Monday and Friday, the men gather at the church and travel to various locations around the metro region to build ramps.

  • Caritas

One week a year, the church houses, feeds, and provides others means of support to the homeless in Richmond.  Each evening, people arrive by bus and are served a meal and given an opportunity to take care of personal hygiene needs as well as interact with our church family. Each morning, they are given breakfast and a bagged lunch for the day to sustain them until they return in the evening.

  • Rise  Against  Hunger

For the past six years, Mechanicsville Baptist Church has partnered with Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) to provide packaged meals to be shipped somewhere in the world where there is a hunger crisis.  Stay tuned for the date we'll have our packing party following a worship service at 11:00 AM.

  • Keenage  Club

Each month, our Senior members meet to spend time with one another.  A different activity is planned each month.  Sometimes they travel to a favorite restaurant to enjoy a delicious meal; other times they stay at the church and play games.  Several times a year, they travel to different places to see programs and shows of interest.  All seniors are welcome to participate.

  • Library

Across the hall from the church office is the library.  The library keeps and stores the history of the church and other important documents related to the church.  The library also contains many different resources for study and development.  Whether you are interested in studying in depth, or finding a book for light reading, the library is the place to search.

Children are an integral part of the Mechanicsville Baptist Church Family. We regularly seek to minister to our children through Sunday school classes, mission programs, choir, Vacation Bible School, and other events and activities.  We believe that God created each child to know and enjoy Him, and we believe the same is also true for each child’s parents/guardians. At each of our Sunday services, we provide a safe and engaging place for children while parents participate in worship.

On Sundays, children experience biblical stories and discussions, prayer, musical worship, and positive playtime. We desire for families to learn together, and hope that all of our efforts support parents in teaching their children the good news about Jesus Christ.  Children's classes meet at 9:45 AM on Sundays in the Family Life Center and at 7:00 PM on Wednesdays in the Family Life Center.

MBC is a church that loves children and also loves the opportunity that we have to live in community with their families. We believe that parents have been divinely appointed to raise their children and shepherd all aspects of their person-hood, and we know this is not an easy task! We are serious about shepherding parents in active and growing relationships with God in which they exemplify and actively impart to their child what it means to respond to a loving God with their lives and build His Kingdom through the local church.

In our pursuit of learning truth from God’s word, we have found that the Bible is not ambiguous about raising children. God has made it clear that children are a blessing from Him, and parents are charged with the role of shaping their hearts to love and fear God. We want to be faithful with the responsibilities that God has given us.  We trust that when we are faithful with our children, God will help up raise men and women that will have a God-ordained impact in our community for generations to come!

Along with this great responsibility and blessing of raising children, parents bear the same calling as every other person created by God for His purposes: to know God, enjoy God, and fulfill a calling to build the local church. We understand it can be tricky to take on all that God intends for parents and we are committed to living in active community where we can help one another. We’re very glad to have you with us and look forward to living in thriving community with you and your children!

Currently, the MBC children's ministry is broken up into classes according to age. When you visit MBC, a volunteer will gladly show you to your child's class, and introduce you to their teachers.

Baby Dedication
Parents are given the opportunity to formally present their child and family to the church several times throughout the year. A Baby Dedication is a chance for the parents to publicly covenant with the church to raise their children according to God’s Word, the truth of the gospel, and through participation in gospel community. We cherish these presentations and value the opportunity it affords for parents to be public witnesses for the value of a Christ-centered family.
